More than a trend: why agile methods are so successful

Agile teamwork promises lasting success. The secret of agility is that teams learn from their environment and, specifically, their customers. Collaboration is constantly adapted – in complete contrast to traditional methods, which ...

... are based on a rigid sequence of planning and execution. In this course from ZEIT Akademie, the power of agile methods is explained by experts. From them, you will learn how to use agile project management to develop cost-effective innovations that are geared to your customers’ needs. The focus here is on the three well-known standard concepts: scrum, lean startup and design thinking. The course outlines the basic principles of the three agile approaches and clears up misunderstandings. You will also find out how to apply the methods correctly in your company.

How can leadership support innovative and agile ways of working?

For agile teams to be able to work well, there needs to be a new understanding of leadership. Agile leadership describes the ability to put teams in a position to work independently and autonomously and to harmonize their results with the company’s strategy. With the help of Flavia Bleuel and Selina Mayer, experts in agile leadership and organizational development at the HPI Academy, you will learn what levers you have as a manager for achieving this, and how you can deal with difficult situations.

How do you begin, and which of them fits best where: scrum, lean startup or design thinking?

Regardless of whether they are using scrum, lean startup or design thinking, teams always go through learning cycles. What do our customers really need? How can we best solve users’ problems? How can we make our product even simpler? In all three methods, interaction with potential customers, stakeholders and users is decisive. However, there are also differences between the approaches. So, where do you begin? You will receive answers to this question from the experts on the course. Benefit from the practical knowledge of the HPI Academy instructor Dr. Holger Rhinow (expert in design thinking) and of the instructors Markus Andrezak (expert in scrum and agile strategy development) and Jan Schmiedgen (expert in lean innovation). The learning content of the cours is supplemented with interactive exercises, quiz questions, case studies, more advanced learning recommendations and a high-quality companion book.

Insights into the practices of leading companies and organizations

Agility offers young startups, traditional companies and international groups alike the opportunity to collaborate in small teams. The course will help you to overcome the challenges in introducing and refining agile methods in your team. In the course, companies like SAP, ING, Wikimedia, Viessmann and the startup Verlingo show how agile leadership is applied in everyday operations. Benefit from their well-founded practical knowledge in your day-to-day work, too.
